Flanders fields & Ypres - Small place , great history

From 1914 to 1918, Flanders Fields was a major battle theatre on the Western Front during the First World War.

With due reason. The lands surrounding Ypres and the town itself became infamous as one of three major battlegrounds. These days the Ypres Salient is dotted with silent graveyards, commemorative museums and monuments. The fallen heroes are honored every evening with the Last Post under the Menen Gate in town. Remembrance of the First World War will always live on in Flanders. In places such as the Menen Gate, where the Last Post sounds every evening, Tyne Cot Memorial and Cemetery (the largest Commonwealth military cemetery in the world) and the many, many memorials dedicated to the fallen and the missing. No wonder the small and beautiful town of Ypres and her surroundings are been chosen by the New York Times as one of the 52 travel destinations you must visit in 2018.
