The West Frisian Islands form an archipelago in the North Sea off the Dutch coast, along the edge of the Wadden Sea. Every island has its own style and culture. But on each of the 5 pearls, the beauty of nature is overwhelming and the atmosphere is great. Explore the picturesque villages, large mudflats, enormous sand areas (one is called “the Sahara of the North”!) and enjoy outdoor activities such as wind-kart, horse ride, seals spotting with a ranger (one of the "Big Five" wild animals in the Netherlands!), beach barbecue, stargazing, etc. The best way to explore once on the islands? By bicycle of course! But sailing is also a great way to explore the region.
Lonely Planet elected Friesland third ‘Best in Europe’ spots of 2018 and Leeuwarden, the capital of the Dutch province of the North, is European Capital of Culture in 2018
