The Sonian Forest covers more than 5,000 hectares making it the main oxygen tank of Brussels. The cathedral of often two-hundred-year-old beech trees, oak tree groves and other examples of our native species offers limitless opportunities for outdoor activities and the forest hosts as well a couple of historical & cultural sites such as the former hippodrome of Bois-Fort, the Royal Loge, the Chateau de La Hulpe, the Fondation Folon, etc.
At the South end of the forest, you will reach Waterloo. Today an affluent suburb of Brussels, Waterloo is mainly known for the Battle of Waterloo (18th of June 1815) where Napoleon Bonaparte went down to his final defeat against British, Dutch and Prussian allied forces. The result of the battle diametrically changed the political and economic face of Europe.
